CSNews Exclusive: MAPCO Express Adds Four New Execs

BRENTWOOD, Tenn. -- MAPCO Express, a wholly owned subsidiary of Delek US Holdings, created two new positions and made two other new executive hires -- moves the convenience retailer said will help it implement its plan for strategic growth.

Former Sheetz veteran Bill Reilly was named MAPCO's new chief marketing officer, while Tony Miller, formerly of Thorntons Inc., took over the role of vice president of sales and merchandising for the convenience store chain. The Tennessee-based chain also hired Blake Miller to fill the newly created position of vice president of human resources, and Russ Shrewsberry joined MAPCO as its first-ever director of private label.

"During the past six months, MAPCO's leadership has developed a series of strategic growth initiatives designed to improve our brand positioning, grow our market share and increase our overall profitability as an organization. Although significant progress has been made in the development of a well-defined long-term strategy, the implementation of this strategy required that we add fresh talent to our ranks -- individuals with both the industry experience and the passion to help us to take the business to the next level," said MAPCO Express President Igal Zamir. "We believe Bill, Tony, Blake and Russ each bring a unique set of qualifications, skills and experiences, which will be instrumental in helping us effectively implement our plan for strategic growth at MAPCO."

Reilly spent 10 years of his career with Sheetz in Pennsylvania where he served as vice president of sales and marketing. Prior to that, he served in the hospitality arena where he spent six years with Disney, and four years with Marriott in a variety of food and beverage roles. Most recently, Reilly served as owner of F&B Marketing Solutions, a consulting firm. He has his degree in culinary arts and is a trained chef.

Tony Miller held numerous executive-level positions over a nine-year period with Thorntons in Louisville, Ky., including his most recent role as senior vice president of sales and marketing. Prior to that, he held key sales and marketing assignments with The Coca-Cola Co. in Louisville.

Blake Miller most recently was a consultant with The HR Group in Nashville, and has held various executive-level human resources and operational positions since 1987 at Whirlpool, Merck, Dell and Asurion. Miller is an accomplished HR leader who will be highly focused on organizational development, leadership and managing culture change, according to MAPCO.

Shrewsberry previously worked in New Jersey with The Great Atlantic & Pacific Tea Co. Inc., where he served as U.S. Director of A&P. Prior to that, he held the title of director, own-brand customer development. Shrewsberry has a strong background in developing successful private label programs in multiple channels. He will be focused on developing and driving growth strategies within this key category, the company said.

MAPCO Express operates more than 500 convenience stores under the MAPCO Express, MAPCO Mart, East Coast, Discount Food Mart, Fast Food and Fuel, and Favorite Markets brand names. Stores are located primarily in and around Memphis, Chattanooga and Nashville, Tenn., northern Georgia, northern Alabama and Richmond, Va.
