Cocaine Energy Drink Maker is Back
LOS ANGELES -- Earlier this year, Redux Beverages LLC generated a lot of heat for its controversial energy drink named Cocaine. After an April 2007 warning from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration forced the drink to be removed from shelves, the beverage maker returns with a new energy drink named after a fictional drink from the movie Idiocracy -- Brawndo: The Thirst Mutilator.
Officially licensed from the 2006 movie created by Mike Judge, who is also known for his cartoon series "Beavis and Butthead" and "King of the Hill," the new energy drink is a lemon-lime-flavored endurance supplement beverage, the company stated. The drink will be available in December and is packed with 200 milligrams of caffeine, electrolytes, inositol and guarana, according to the company.
"Brawndo: The Thirst Mutilator is a perfect fit for the Redux brand of products which stand for quality and attitude," Redux founder Jamey Kirby said in a statement. "With Brawndo we have a product that we already know people want, and even those who don't know the movie will easily fall for its great taste and superior energizing attributes."
Redux Beverages gained the rights through a partnership with 20th Century Fox Films and OMNI Consumer Products. Brawndo will be available in a yellow, 16-ounce aluminum can citing the movie's catchphrase -- "It's got what plants crave!"
