Bently Biofuels to Build Sustainable C-store

MINDEN, Nev. -- Bently Biofuels broke ground this week on the future site of a potentially Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design-certified (LEED) biofuels station and convenience store here, which will feature three fueling islands pumping diesel, biodiesel and ethanol, the Reno News & Review reported.

"We are pursuing probably a LEED Silver certification on the building and the project itself," Bently Biofuels general manager, Carlo Luri, told the newspaper. "It will use lots of local materials, recycled materials, energy efficiency, solar power, obviously, so it's going to be a pretty cool facility."

LEED is a voluntary rating system for buildings certified through the U.S. Green Building Council, according to the report.

The facility will include a 3,500-square-foot convenience store that will be markedly different from others in the region.

"I don't think Minden needs another 7-Eleven or Minimart," Luri said. Product assortment details are far from being finalized, but Luri told the paper he's talking with sustainable coffee roasters and solar-powered beer brewers, along with food from local farmers.

"The whole thing will go together -- a green building, and hopefully a green building with not too many Twinkies in it," he said.

Luri expects the facility to be open in September 2008, according to the report.
