7-Eleven Tames Thirst With Wild Straws, Novelty Cups

DALLAS — 7-Eleven Inc. introduced limited-edition Slurpee straws on Tuesday with muzzles, snouts and beaks based on four animals: the eagle, fox, wolf and cat. The straws retail for $1.49 each at participating 7-Eleven stores.

Along with the collectible straws, customers can buy new novelty Slurpee cups designed to be reminiscent of vintage glass milk bottles. The refillable plastic cups sell for a suggested retail price of $2.99 each, which includes the first Slurpee fill. The initial cup purchase and all refills count toward the 7Rewards loyalty platform Buy 6-Get 7 free drink program available exclusively through the 7-Eleven mobile app.

"This summer, we want our customers to join the fun and select their own spirit animal with our new Slurpee straws," stated Laura Gordon, vice president of marketing and brand innovation. "With four options, Slurpee fans can change it up every visit. We had a lot of fun with mustache straws last summer, and we think people will be just as wild over our animal straws and Slurpee cups."

Slurpee fans are encouraged to take a summer selfie and tag @7Eleven or @Slurpee on Instagram and Twitter, and share it on 7-Eleven's Facebook page.

7-Eleven's guidelines for choosing an animal straw are:

  • Cat – Independent, curious, unpredictable, selective, most likely to taste all Slurpee flavors before filling cup
  • Wolf – Sharp, intelligent, instinctive, most likely to concoct their own Slurpee creation
  • Fox – Nocturnal, cunning, adaptable, aware, most likely to slurp at night
  • Eagle – Swift, powerful, focused, dominant, most likely to slurp too fast and get a brainfreeze

The current featured Slurpee flavor is Mountain Dew Solar Flare, a bright red-orange drink that combines the citrus flavor of Mountain Dew with a blast of tropical punch, according to the announcement.

Dallas-based 7-Eleven operates, franchises or licenses a total of 10,500 stores in North America.
