7-Eleven Shakes Up Downtown Dallas

DALLAS -- 7-Eleven Inc., operator of more than 7,200 convenience stores in North America, is celebrating the opening today of its latest store -- in the downtown central business district here -- with a ribbon cutting ceremony, featuring a party, concert and CD launch.

"Downtown Dallas is home to thousands, the workplace of tens of thousands, and a visitors' destination for millions," Allen Pack, vice president of 7-Eleven's corporate and franchise stores in Texas and four nearby states, said in a written statement. "Besides a loyal following of 900 7-Eleven employees who recently moved offices to 1 Arts Plaza, we know our new downtown store will provide a much-needed convenient source for fresh foods and drinks at lunch, forgotten groceries in the evenings, and snacks and beverages on weekends for downtown visitors to the Arts District."

The new store is located at 1720 Routh St. in 1 Arts Plaza, the same spot where the company moved its headquarters a month ago. To celebrate the opening, the company is holding a "party on the plaza" today from 4 to 6 p.m. A mini-concert will kick off sales of its "Support Our Troops -- Support Their Sacrifice" CD, a collection of patriotic songs by Grammy-winning and emerging country artists that will benefit the USO and its programs for American troops and families.

Three artists featured on the album -- All-4-One, Celena Rae and Courtney Now -- will appear at the celebration to sing songs and autograph their CDs at the newly opened store. Other artists on the CD include Willie Nelson, Larry Gatlin and The Gatlin Brothers, Hank Williams Jr., Lee Greenwood, Waylon Jennings, the Oak Ridge Boys and The Judds. Customers who buy a CD at the new store also will receive a commemorative camouflage refillable mug while supplies last, the company said.

The CD retails for $8.99 and is exclusive to participating 7-Eleven stores. For each CD sold, $1 will be donated to the USO. 7-Eleven is offering the album through a partnership with YMC Records, a division of Dallas-based World Digital Media Group LLC.

Today's ceremonies will open with a color guard that will represent the branches of the U.S. military. Speeches at the event will be made by: 7-Eleven President and CEO Joe DePinto, who is also a U.S. Military Academy at West Point graduate; Chief Marketing Officer Doug Foster, a graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis; USO Board of Governors member Will A. Courtney, CPM, and Chris Christian, CEO of World Digital Media and YMC Records.

Free samples of 7-Eleven's fresh sandwiches, Go-Go Taquitos and brownies will be served to guests. A grand opening promotion will feature 7-cent Slurpee drinks and 11-cent Big Bite hot dogs.

The store will also offer salads, fruit and vegetables, made-fresh-daily baked goods, seven varieties of Big Bite hot dogs, six choices of Go-Go Taquitos, nachos, cold beverages, wine, coffee, six flavors of Slurpee and 16 varieties of fountain drinks, plus three flavor shots.
