7-Eleven to Offer Advanced-Function ATMs

DALLAS -- Beginning later this year, MoneyGram money transfer and ExpressPayment urgent bill payment services will be offered through 2,250 advanced-function ATMs at 7-Eleven stores in the U.S., according to an announcement by the companies.

As part of 7-Eleven Inc.’s multi-year agreement with MoneyGram International, a global payment services company, and Cardtronics, an ATM provider, the financial self-service kiosks will facilitate money transfers and ExpressPayment urgent bill payments for walk-up customers without the aid of store personnel.

Currently located in more than 20 major metropolitan areas, the kiosks facilitate automated money transfers or ExpressPayment urgent bill payments, and dispense cash when receiving a money transfer at the terminal. Cardtronics has the exclusive rights to operate advanced-function ATMs at select 7-Eleven stores through 2017.

MoneyGram service at the 7-Eleven advanced function ATMs will initially be offered in Arizona, California, Colorado, Delaware, Florida, Maryland, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Texas, Utah, Virginia and Washington, according to the companies.

In other 7-Eleven news, the c-store retailer joined with Nexon America, a world leader in massively multiplayer online games (MMOG) to kick-off the "Where You Play for Free" Slurpee drink campaign in the U.S. to introduce and promote the world of free-to-play online games, according to a news release from both companies.

The promotion, running now through Dec. 31, in more than 5,600 participating U.S. 7-Eleven stores, includes four Nexon-branded 22-ounce Slurpee cups, each featuring different eye-popping images from Nexon’s games: MapleStory, Mabinogi, Combat Arms and Sugar Rush. 7-Eleven customers also receive a collectible Nexon game DVD with the purchase of a 22-ounce or larger-sized Slurpee beverage while supplies last.

The DVD includes the four Nexon games featured on the branded cups so users can easily download them onto their PC. Each Nexon-themed Slurpee cup has an exclusive game code redeemable for customized 7-Eleven and Slurpee-branded in-game virtual items. The game code also provides 7-Eleven customers access to participate in the closed beta stage of the highly anticipated MMOG game, Sugar Rush, which is scheduled to launch in early 2009. To further celebrate the promotion, 7-Eleven introduced a new, promotional flavor, Vanilla Créme, a variation of vanilla that mixes well with other Slurpee flavors.

"We’ve seen great success with the Nexon pre-paid cash cards and this partnership further solidifies 7-Eleven as a premier gaming destination," Brad Haga, 7-Eleven’s senior product director of services, said in a statement. "Free-to-play games are more popular than ever in North America, and with Nexon, we can deliver a dynamic experience for our customers looking for great entertainment."

7-Eleven operates, franchises or licenses more than 7,600 c-stores in North America.
