7-Eleven Expands in Connecticut

NORWALK, Conn. -- 7-Eleven is opening its first Norwalk location at 247 Main Ave., the former location of Main Avenue Shell, as part of an aggressive expansion nationwide. The Hour reported.

The Norwalk 7-Eleven is expected to open in June, and locations are expected in Stamford, Southport and possibly Darien before the year is out, the report stated.

"7-Eleven is in a very aggressive development and growth mode right now," Margaret Chabris, director of corporate communications for 7-Eleven, said in the report. "We've cleaned up our balance sheet and have a good cash flow. Also, rental rates have come down because of the economy and we feel we are in a good position to build a lot of stores in our market, including the New York metro area."

She also said the company anticipates building at least 300 new stores in the United States -- both ground up and through the business conversion program. "We're inviting mom-and-pop and other stores to convert to 7-Eleven," she said in the report, adding the company will invest $250,000 into improving the location with each business conversion.

The Norwalk location will offer gas and a 24-hour convenience store that will feature 7-Eleven products such as Big Gulp fountain drinks, frozen Slurpee beverages, and Big Bite grill items. The food selection will also include a proprietary line of deli sandwiches, wraps, breakfast sandwiches and a fresh baked goods, the report stated.
