Pilot Flying J Gives Out Free Diesel Additive for the Winter

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- Pilot Flying J is offering a free diesel fuel additive to prevent breakdowns caused by fuel line and filter freezing and corrosion, Fleet Owner reported. The additive is being offered by participating Pilot Travel Centers and Flying J Travel Plazas in northern regions that reach temperatures of 15°F, as well as in states known for harsh winters such as Colorado, New York, Minnesota and Wyoming.

"We are pleased to once again offer our additive program for professional drivers," said Pilot Flying J CEO Jimmy Haslam. "As the driver-driven company, we strive to make the fueling experience positive and convenient for our professional drivers, and this is just another way to better serve them."

The additive prevents hydrocarbons that have poor solubility at low temperatures from precipitating from fuel as it cools. Wax crystals formed by the precipitate can accumulate on filters and restrict fuel flow, causing power loss, engine stalling or an inability to start. IN addition, the additive improves low temperature operability in a wide range of fuels by lowering the cold filter plugging and point pour point without reducing the fuel's energy content; reduces the chance of the fuel line freezing; and helps disperse waxes in fuel instead of allowing it to settle.

"Winter driving conditions are difficult at best," said Pilot Flying J Executive Vice President Mark Hazelwood. "The goal of our winter diesel additive program is to give our customers added peace of mind and to make their winter driving experience a positive one."
