Pilot Centers Go Wireless

KNOXVILLE, Tenn.-- Pilot Travel Centers LLC is rolling out wireless technology to its 268 travel centers in 37 states by the end of the first quarter 2004.

In a partnership with Truckstop.net of San Antonio, Texas, Pilot will deploy Truckstop.net's wireless fidelity (Wi-Fi) network to give truckers, mobile sales forces, motor coach operators and other travelers wireless Internet access, and will use Truckstop.net's connectivity to provide other industry-related services and applications, the two companies announced.

"With Truckstop.net's Wi-Fi network, Pilot is able to offer value and service in an area of exciting and state-of-the-art technology," said Jeffery Cornish, senior vice present, CFO and CIO of Pilot Travel Centers.

Truckstop.net and Sprint have a multimillion-dollar agreement and plans to bring high-speed wireless capabilities to 3,000 truck stops and travel plazas across the United States.

"Being active in 37 states, it was critical the Wi-Fi solution Pilot selected could be delivered nationally. Knowing that a national carrier such as Sprint was also involved with Truckstop.net reinforced the commitment to high standard and a level of serve that the industry was at Pilot could rely on, " Cornish said.
