Petro Stopping Centers Donates $86,000 for Cancer Research

MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- On Dec. 9, Petro Stopping Centers LC presented $86,250 to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital thanks to its Halloween promotion in October.

During the promotion, employees at participating Petro locations asked patrons to make a $1 donation to St. Jude to support its fight against catastrophic childhood diseases. In return for the contribution, the donors had the opportunity to write their names on pumpkin-themed pinups, which the establishment displays through the month of October. The Petro location in Corning, Calif., raised the most money out of more than 60 participating centers with a total of $4,165.

El Paso, Texas-based Petro, which operates 61 interstate locations in 31 states, is a first-year participant in the program and is proud of the support it has received from the community. "Our customers, mainly truck drivers, are some of the most generous people you'll find anywhere. Even with diesel fuel prices well over $2 per gallon, they demonstrated a willingness to dig into their own pockets to support this worthy cause," said Petro COO Jim Cardwell. "Petro Stopping Centers is proud of our new association with St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and looks forward to raising even more money to fight childhood cancer in the coming year."
