Petro-Canada Honors Athletes and Coaches

CALGARY

Petro-Canada Inc., in partnership with the Canadian Olympic Association (COA), will assist Canadian athletes and coaches through the Petro-Canada Olympic Torch Scholarship Fund.

This year, scholarships totaling $590,000 will help 133 student athletes and 25 coaches in their pursuit of athletic and academic excellence.

The fund's goal is to help high-performance Olympic-caliber athletes and coaches prepare for future competition and pursue their post-secondary studies. Petro-Canada, operator of more than 300 convenience stores, and the COA will honor scholarship recipients later this year at ceremonies in Victoria, Vancouver, Calgary, Saskatoon and Montreal.

"This program provides young Canadians with an incentive to continue pursuing full-time education, while following their dreams to compete," said Robert Andras, senior director of corporate communications for Petro-Canada. "Helping develop Canadian talent and expertise has always been an integral part of our way of thinking. I would like to congratulate all recipients and wish them the best of luck and continued success."

Since 1988, the Petro-Canada Olympic Torch Scholarship Fund has awarded more than $5.1 million to over 1,750 coaches and athletes.
