Motiva Enterprises announces new president and CEO; CMN founder retires.

William Welte has been announced as the successor to John Boles, current president and CEO of Motiva Enterprises LLC. Boles, who announced his retirement earlier this year, stepped down on Aug. 1 to pursue personal interests.

Welte has worked with the company since July 1998 and brings outside oil and gas experience to Motiva. He will succeed Boles in the position of general counsel for Motiva Enterprises, which he has held since 2000.

Boles said, "I eagerly welcome Bill taking the helm of the company's operations. Bill enjoys an intimate knowledge of our business, commands the confidence and respect of his colleagues and our joint venture partners Saudi Refining Inc. and Shell, and will provide strong leadership and sound judgment."

In July 1998, Welte was named assistant general counsel for Equiva Services, a Shell-affiliated company. Prior to that, he served as general attorney for Aramco Services Co., also a petroleum company.

In other people news, Bill Bedortha has announced his retirement from Austin, Texas-based CMN (Convenience Marketing Network), the company he founded in 1989. Bedortha's unique business model enabled CMN to maintain a leadership role in the c-store industry and other diversified classes of trade. He will continue to work with CMN as a consultant.

Bill Price has been named general manager of CMN. Price joined CMN in 1990 and has worked with its leadership team over the past 14 years.
