Nice N Easy Grocery Shoppes, based in Canastota, N.Y. and operating more than 80 stores in upstate New York, recently promoted Michael MacDougall to director of back-office systems and hired Kevin Hilsinger, who has worked with the company as a contractor, as director of retail systems.

"Michael and Kevin have helped Nice N Easy stay on the cutting edge of technology," said John MacDougall, president and CEO of Nice N Easy. "In their new positions, they will continue to play a key role in keeping us ahead of the technology curve."

In his new position, MacDougall is responsible for overseeing all store-level and main-office computer systems and will also serve as PDI administrator, making sure that all computer software is functioning properly and updated when necessary.

Prior to his promotion, MacDougall served as Nice N Easy’s IT support for three years. Since joining Nice N Easy, he has designed and maintained the company’s Web site as well as its network.

As director of retail systems, Hilsinger's duties include managing the service on all retail point-of-sale (POS) equipment as well as overseeing all projects affiliated with point-of-sale systems as well as security surveillance systems.

Prior to joining Nice N Easy, Hilsinger served as a factory-certified electronics master technician for various contractors. During that time, he received Verifone factory training on its POS equipment and serviced Nice N Easy for about 10 years.

Hilsinger was actively involved in two major projects for Nice N Easy: scanning and implementation of electronic pricebook. During the late 1980s, Hilsinger repaired gasoline-dispensing equipment for Herkimer Petroleum Products. Additionally, he has attended numerous specialized training schools on Gilbarco electronic gasoline dispensing equipment and Gilbarco register equipment training.

In other people news, Isabel Delk, 80 years young and a store manager for Flash Foods in Waycross, Ga., has been selected as the 2005 Georgia Store Manager of the Year by the Georgia Association of Convenience Stores (GACS). Delk was honored at the organization’s recent annual meeting in Amelia Island, Florida.

Known to her customers as Ms. Isabel, she began her convenience store career in 1969 with 7-Eleven in Waycross and has spent the last 26 years with Flash Foods and has received numerous company awards and honors during her career in the industry.

"At 80 years of age, she has more energy and get up and go than most 20 year olds," said Jimmy Moore, director of human resources at Flash Foods. Additionally, employees obviously like working for her, as her store turned over only one employee in the last two and a half years.

Additionally, Altadis U.S.A. named Larry Palombo senior director of tobacco. Palombo brings with him over 30 years of experience in the tobacco industry, including 22 years with General Cigar and nine years with U.S. Tobacco.

Palombo will be working with George Gershel, senior vice president of tobacco, and Nick van Olden, vice president of tobacco, of the Altadis U.S.A. Leaf Division.

Finally, IZZE Beverage Co. hired Peter Burns as vice president of sales to oversee the sales department and the distribution network.

Burns has more than 10 years of executive-level experience, serving most recently as vice president of sales integration and general manager at Hershey Foods. Burns also served as executive vice president of sales at Mauna Loa from 2001-2004, and was responsible for tripling the business by the end of his tenure there.
