Opening Date Set for Walmart's First C-store

BENTONVILLE, Ark. -- Wal-Mart Stores Inc.'s new convenience store model is inching closer to reality. The locally based retailer will hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new outlet in its hometown next week.

The debut project will be located at the northwest corner of Walton Boulevard and 14th Street in Bentonville, where the ceremony is scheduled to begin at 8 a.m. on March 19, according to Arkansas Business.

The new c-store is rising on a 2.01-acre site the company purchased for $4.5 million in September. It will offer gas, snacks and beverages, along with staples such as milk, bread and eggs, as CSNews Online previously reported.

"We know this type of convenience store is popular with customers," Walmart spokeswoman Deisha Barnett said in November. "We're excited about the opportunity to test a new store and learn."

There are no current plans to build additional Walmart c-stores.

Walmart operates more than 11,000 retail units under 69 banners in 27 countries and e-commerce websites in 10 countries.
