EAU CLAIRE, Wis. — Mega! CO-OP has agreed to purchase five Travel Stop locations from owners Dan and Phyllis Acker. The stores are located in Stanley, Abbotsford, Elk Mound, Durand and New Lisbon, Wis.
The company will operate the stores as Mega! CO-OP Travel Stop and keep the branded Shell and BP fuel they currently offer.
"2016 has been a transformational year for the Consumers Cooperative Association of Eau Claire," said Mike Buck, CEO of the Consumers Cooperative Associative of Eau Claire, parent company of Mega CO-OP. "Mega! CO-OP is now focused solely on the convenience store business and, as such, has spent a great deal of resources this last year remodeling, rebranding, and stabilizing our new business model."
Cooperative members now have 38 options for fuel and food in 11 counties and 20 cities, according to Buck.
"Additionally, the Cooperative continues to create quality jobs in each community and now employs more than 300 team members that work hard to serve our cooperative member's needs," Buck said.
In January 2016, Mega! CO-OP finalized an agreement with Gordy's Market through which the Mega Co-op grocery stores would become Gordy's Markets and the Gordy's Express convenience stores and gas stations would become Mega Holidays, allowing each company to focus on its primary business, as CSNews Online reported.
The Consumers Cooperative Associative of Eau Claire was founded in 1935 and operates 38 c-stores in west central Wisconsin.
