NATIONAL REPORT — In a new installment of his video series with Convenience Store News parent company, Stagnito Business Information + Edgell Communications, Phil Lempert discusses Disney’s Flavor Lab, a 7,000-square-foot research and development facility.
Here, chefs, sommeliers, mixologists, Disney Imagineers and restaurant managers dream up the dining experiences guests enjoy at Walt Disney Parks around the world.
“We have over 475 food and beverage locations in Florida, and more than 160 in California, with every style of cuisine and service you can imagine,” Ed Wronski, the director of culinary development at Walt Disney Parks and Resorts, recently told Fox News.
As Lempert reports, this summer has brought dozens of new food and beverage creations developed by the Flavor Lab team, including the D-Luxe Burger. Lenny De George, executive chef of culinary concept development at Walt Disney, studied burgers and French fries — which his team knew nothing of — for two years.
Those months of research resulted in a pared-down menu of four super-juicy burgers made with a signature blend of Angus chuck, short rib and brisket, with unique combinations of toppings in freshly baked buns. The fries are cut in-house, cooked three times (steamed once, fried twice), and then served with a choice of six dipping sauces.
Walt Disney demanded that everything begins with a story, and that’s true for the food as well.
As CSNews Online previously reported, Lempert and Stagnito + Edgell forged an exclusive strategic alliance that allows Lempert to provide content and programming to multiple CPG retail media brands within the Stagnito + Edgell portfolio, including Convenience Store News and Progressive Grocer.
Lempert is founder of The Lempert Report, a food trends publication, and SupermarketGuru.com, a leading online resource for food safety, products, trends and shopping tips that attracts more than nine million visitors annually.
