BOSTON — Boston Red Sox fans can now cheer on their favorite team at the pump thanks to CITGO Petroleum Corp.
Named a “Proud Partner of the Boston Red Sox,” the CITGO brand will be brought to life through customized, co-branded activations at more than 400 CITGO stations in the New England area and in Fenway Park throughout the 2016 baseball season.
Starting in early May, participating CITGO stations will sport red and navy for the Red Sox. The co-branded creative will include pumptoppers, exterior signage, in-store materials, fun consumer giveaways, employee accessories, and more.
Additionally, via the CITGO mobile app, customers will have the opportunity to enroll in Club CITGO for the chance to win baseball-themed rewards and prizes. Fans at each Red Sox home game will be encouraged to join Club CITGO and participate in the drawing via video-scoreboard promotions.
“For decades, the iconic CITGO sign in Kenmore Square has been linked to the Red Sox and Fenway Park,” said Troup Parkinson, Red Sox executive vice president of partnerships. “Through this new partnership, we are pleased to formalize that connection and look forward to celebrating the relationship throughout the season.”
CITGO will score once again in July when it launches a Boston Red Sox Spirit Pump initiative at participating CITGO locations in the Boston area. Through October, each time a consumer pumps gas from one of these specified pumps, a portion of the proceeds from the sale will be donated to the Red Sox Foundation, which benefits underserved children in the Boston community.
“With more than 400 CITGO stations throughout New England participating in this campaign, we at CITGO recognize and appreciate the loyalty of Red Sox fans when they visit us at our stations almost every day,” said Alan Flagg, CITGO's assistant vice president of supply and marketing. “As a proud partner of the Boston Red Sox for the 2016 season, we look forward to fueling good and fueling Red Sox pride for our customers, our marketers and retailers, and all of the Boston community.”
Houston-based CITGO is a refiner, transporter and marketer of transportation fuels. The company is owned by CITGO Holding Inc., an indirect, wholly owned subsidiary of Petróleos de Venezuela SA, the national oil company of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela.
