Jewel-Osco has named company veteran Doug Cygan VP of marketing and merchandising.
Bringing 34 years of experience to the role, Cygan began his career with Jewel-Osco in 1980 as a grocery clerk. He was later promoted to store director, and subsequently held positions throughout the company’s store support center in marketing and merchandising, including category manager, director of marketing, VP fresh food merchandising, and VP merchandising. Cygan was most recently named director of grocery upon New Albertson’s acquisition of the chain.
“[Cygan] not only knows the business and communities we serve, but also understands what ‘the Jewel’ means to the heart of Chicago,” said Shane Sampson, Jewel-Osco president. “Doug has seen the company transition throughout the years as he learned the business from the bottom up.”
Said Cygan: “We’ve implemented so many great things like in-store juice bars and fresh cut fruit that I’m excited about as a customer, and I can’t wait to lead our future efforts with the support of our 31,000 employees to delight our guests in the future as we grow and improve.”
Itasca-based Jewel-Osco operates 185 locations in Illinois, Indiana and Iowa, and employs 31,000 associates.
