ST. LOUIS -- Anheuser-Busch Cos. Inc. is planning to sell its low-carb Michelob Ultra in 12-ounce cans beginning next month, according to the St. Louis Business Journal.
The brand has a 2.1 percent share of the beer market less than 18 months after its launch. Michelob Ultra is the fastest-growing brand in the company's history, selling 400,000 barrels in its first quarter. By the end of this year, the company is on track to sell more than 2 million barrels, according to recent figures, the publication stated.
Earlier this month, Anheuser-Busch said Michelob Ultra had been named the title sponsor of the LPGA Open at Kingsmill in Williamsburg, Va., beginning in 2004. The brand will also serve as the "official beer" of golf beginning in the 2004 season, the company said, according to the St. Louis Business Journal.
