Mac's Partners With Mava Foods to Offer Home Meal Replacements

ONTARIO, Canada -- Mac's Convenience Stores is partnering with MAVA Foods to launch chef Marcus VonAlbrecht's Health Check line of home meal replacements.

Three initial varieties will be available: Szechuan Beef with Vegetables on Rice; Curried Vegetables and Tofu on Rice; and Hearty Alberta Beef Stew. All of the products in the line meet strict nutritional criteria, developed by the Heart and Stroke Foundation based on the recommendations in Canada's Food Guide for sodium, fat, sugar content, etc.

According to MAVA Foods, the company prides itself on providing customers with healthy, locally sourced fresh foods. Its products, manufactured in Richmond, B.C., all use produce and proteins from farms in Alberta and British Columbia. They contain no added preservatives or MSG, and use organic produce wherever possible.

The Health Check line will be available in the Take Away Café section of 56 British Columbus Mac's stores. The launch is intended to fulfill a new direction for Mac's by offering healthier deli selections.

A national expansion is planned for the future, according to the announcement.
