Kum & Go Cuts Biodiesel Prices

DES MOINES, Iowa -- Kum & Go selected 17 of its convenience stores in more than a dozen Iowa communities to celebrate Biodiesel Appreciation Day by trimming the price for B2 biodiesel by 10 cents per gallon yesterday, from 8 a.m. until noon.

"While ethanol makes a lot of headlines, especially here in Iowa, biodiesel has become the sleeping giant of biofuels," Jessica Zopf, environmental health coordinator for the American Lung Association of Iowa, said in a written statement. "Iowa produces 225 million gallons of cleaner-burning biodiesel a year, which can significantly reduce harmful tailpipe emissions when used in higher concentrations. Buying a 2-percent blend biodiesel may be a small step, but it is a vital beginning on a path toward cleaner air, greener fuels and less dependence on petroleum."

The event began at 8:30 a.m. at the Kum & Go store at 3400 S.E. 14th St. in Des Moines, where Mayor Frank Cownie honored Kum & Go for its leadership in offering Clean Air Choice fuels, including biodiesel and E85. The event was sponsored by Kum & Go, the Iowa Soybean Association and the Iowa Clean Air Choice Team.
