Kangaroo Express Raises $1M for Military in Just Three Weeks

CARY, N.C. -- The Pantry Inc.'s "Salute Our Troops" campaign raised more than $1 million in its first three weeks, the convenience store chain announced today.

The Pantry is encouraging donations from its employees, as well as from customers at the checkout counters of its 1,607 Kangaroo Express stores across 13 states. Money raised will support the USO, lifting the spirits of America's troops and their families; the Wounded Warrior Project, honoring and empowering injured servicemen and women; and six-state based military support organizations.

"As soon as it seems that the generosity and enthusiasm from our guests and employees to the Salute Our Troops campaign is at its peak, we are in awe as they reach one step higher," said John Fisher, senior vice president of marketing, merchandising and restaurant operations at Kangaroo Express. "Reaching our goal so early could truly not have been possible without these individuals, especially our valued employees, who are devoted to sharing the Salute Our Troops mission to customers every day."

Last year’s Salute Our Troops campaign raised a total of $2.5 million, and it took five weeks to reach the $1-million milestone.

To promote this year's campaign, Salute Our Troops celebrations -- led by the Salute Our Troops Caravan -- began in Jacksonville, Fla., and will continue to take place at Kangaroo Express stores throughout the southeastern United States in the coming weeks.
