INTERNATIONAL NEWS: 7-Eleven Gives Away Slurpees to Redheads

Australian stores celebrate redheaded Prime Minister's first day in office.

SYDNEY, Australia -- To celebrate the redhead Prime Minister Julia Gillard's first official day in office yesterday, 7-Eleven stores across the country here gave away free medium Slurpees to any man, woman or child sporting red locks -- from strawberry blond to auburn, Franchise.net.au reported.

To receive the free drink, redheads must declare: "It's a good day for redheads" when they enter a 7-Eleven convenience store, according to the report. The offer was announced via social media, and according to the report, had received a "roaring response" from Slurpee fans.

Tracy Hammon, the convenience chain's public affairs and communications manager, told the Wev site: "We thought about offering free raspberry flavored Slurpees to all customers, but thought no, 'Let the redheads have their day in the sun.' They don't have it that often, do they?"

7-Eleven has stores across Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane.
