Wawa Becomes Latest C-store Chain to Offer Mobile Ordering

WAWA, Pa. — Mobile ordering is coming to your Wawa Inc. mobile app.

According to the Philly Voice, the convenience food retailer has begun rolling out a mobile ordering feature to its app. Select Wawa Rewards members can now use their mobile devices to place orders for items typically found on the chain's in-store touchscreens.

Lori Bruce, a spokeswoman for Wawa, told the news outlet that the test phase of mobile ordering is mostly being offered to rewards program users who have shopped in Wawa stores in Delaware County, Pa.

In addition, Pennsylvania customers who visit Wawa locations in parts of Chester and Montgomery counties also have been included in the rollout.

Wawa announced the feature to a select few Thursday through email and mobile push notifications. Bruce could not confirm how many people can use the feature.

This isn't Wawa's first foray into mobile ordering. In 2008, the retailer piloted a service that allowed customers to pre-order food through text messages or online. The program was in partnership with GoMobo, a supplier of mobile payment technology, as CSNews Online previously reported.

Pennsylvania-based Wawa operates more than 730 convenience retail stores, with more than 500 offering gasoline, in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia and Florida.
