    Shell Implements New Payment Options at Some Retail Locations

    POS technology allows more secure card payments.

    HOUSTON — Shell Retail implemented Revel Systems’ Apple iPad-based point-of-sale (POS) system services at selected retail fuel sites worldwide.

    The Revel Systems platform is designed to allow for:

    • Secure fuel and convenience store card payments;
    • Managing pumps and wet stock inventory both straight from the iPad and remotely;
    • Developing loyalty programs for customers;
    • Ease in real time track of convenience store inventory;
    • Allowing customers to refuel, shop for items in store and pay in one place; and
    • Operating and accepting payments in offline mode.

    “Improving our customer journey and experience while keeping all of our sites running with quick and easy service is paramount,” said Maggie van Hoff, chief information officer, Shell Retail. “With Revel Systems, we are implementing new tablets and payment options that are easy to use, innovative and will improve the customer experience so that customers keep coming back to Shell.”

    According to Revel Systems, Shell will have access to the power of its hybrid architecture, allowing for seamless transition between both online and offline mode.

    “We are pleased to announce that we have been working with Shell to provide technology as a service in an environment that not only allows Shell retailers to deliver exciting innovation today, but one that will future proof business in a way that is compliant and completely secure,” said Chris Ciabarra, co-founder and chief technology officer of Revel Systems. “We are confident this technology and method of delivering through site systems as a service will be adopted throughout the fuel industry and beyond.”

    Revel Systems was founded in 2010 in San Francisco with the goal of changing the POS market. It has raised more than $130 million in funding to date.

    Shell Retail is one of the largest single branded retailers in the world with approximately 43,000 sites in more than 70 countries serving 25 million customers every day. Its U.S. division is Houston-based Shell Oil Co. Both are affiliates of Royal Dutch Shell plc.
