Shell Forms Unique Partnership With Jaguar

HOUSTON — Shell Oil Co. is partnering with luxury vehicle brand Jaguar to launch a brand new feature that allows drivers to pay for gas without leaving their cars.

Drivers of select models are now able to use their car’s touchscreen display to pay for fuel at participating gas stations with a new cashless payment app produced by Shell, reported The Verge.

The feature — which is available in 2018 Jaguar F-PACE, XE and XF models — utilizes PayPal or Apple Pay to make secure payments. Android Pay is expected to be added later this year.

In the near-term, service will only be available at all of Shell’s United Kingdom stations, but Jaguar said it expects a global rollout in the future.

"In a world where cash is no longer king, customers are increasingly using electronic payments and contactless cards," Peter Virk, Jaguar Land Rover's director of Connected Car and Future Technology, said in a statement. "Making a payment directly from a car’s touchscreen will make refueling quicker and easier."

Houston-based Shell Oil Co. is an affiliate of the Royal Dutch Shell plc, a global group of energy and petrochemical companies with operations in more than 70 countries.
