Rutter's Retains Ranking Among Central Pa.'s Best

YORK, Pa. — Rutter's has earned a spot among the top private companies in its region for the 10th consecutive year.

The convenience store retailer ranks No. 3 on the Central Penn Business Journal’s 2015 list of the Top 100 Private Companies in Central Pennsylvania. Rutter's has been in the top 10 every year since 2005.

In addition, the retailer came out on top as the No. 1-ranked company on the Top 100 Private Companies in York County, Pa., according to the Business Journal.

Rutter’s Chief Customer Officer Derek Gaskins pointed to the company’s foodservice program, as well as its commitment to leading-edge technology, as two reasons for its consistent growth.

He cited recent enhancements to the Rutter’s Rewards program, like the introduction of the Rutter’s Rewards VIP Club. He also pointed to the company’s two new corporate giving programs, Vote with Your Dollars and Rutter’s Rewards Schools, as examples of using technology to benefit the c-store chain's customers.

"Customers who join our VIP Club can earn and redeem rewards without using a Rutter's Rewards card, take advantage of Remember Me technology when ordering on our touchscreen food order kiosks, redeem fuel rewards at our pumps, and load exclusive VIP-only offers to their Rutter’s Rewards loyalty wallets. We developed these changes to make our customers' interactions with us easier and more efficient," Gaskins said.

"Vote with Your Dollars and Rutter's Rewards Schools not only give area charities and school organizations a way to raise money, but also allow our customers to have a voice in the causes to which we lend financial support," he added.

Rutter's traces its roots in the area back to 1747. Its 268-year history makes it the oldest vertically integrated food company in the United States.

Rutter’s is widely recognized as a convenience store industry leader in foodservice, innovative technology and customer service — most recently receiving the 2014 International Convenience Retailer of the Year award given by NACS, the Association for Convenience & Fuel Retailing, and Insight.

The York-based company is guided by the family’s third generation of leadership, with Scott Hartman as president and CEO, Todd Rutter as president of Rutter's Dairy, and Tim Rutter as president of M&G Realty.

The company operates 60 convenience stores throughout Central Pennsylvania.
