PDI Adds New Scratch Ticket Scanning Feature

TEMPLE, Texas -- PDI is incorporating technology from gaming technology and services company GTECH Corp. into the latest version of its lottery inventory management features for the PDI/Store Assistant handheld. The collaboration is an effort to fully automate inventory tracking for scratch-off lottery tickets, the company stated. PDI customers will be able to scan serialized bar codes to capture and reconcile information polled from in-store point-of-sale devices.

"We are very pleased with our new relationship with GTECH. Lottery is an important revenue generator for many of our customers," stated Paula Conti, vice president of customer service for PDI and committee chair for the PCATS EB2B Lottery Working Group. "Access to this technology improves overall lottery inventory control and loss prevention through automation, which is what Doing Business Electronically is all about."

The new process saves time and significantly decreases the opportunity for human error, according to PDI.

"GTECH is completely committed to helping retailers, who are so fundamental to lottery success, manage the work associated with selling instant 'scratch' tickets," said Jim Breindel, senior manager of retail development for GTECH. "The addition of this functionality to the PDI/Store Assistant provides retailers a simple solution that manages the current operational challenges presented by instant ticket inventory control and addresses the real world issue of shrinkage."

PDI provides software, hardware and professional services to convenience retailers and wholesale petroleum marketers, serving approximately 330 companies and more than 28,000 retail locations, according to the company.
