PCI SSC Helps Retailers Better Understand Mobile Payments

WAKEFIELD, Mass. -- Mobile payments continue to grow in the convenience store industry. The PCI Security Standards Council (PCI SSC) believed that a fact sheet was necessary for all retailers as mobile technology changes rapidly, something that has left retailers with plenty of questions.

The PCI SSC published a customized fact sheet outlining how merchants can securely accept payments using mobile devices including smartphones and tablets.

Called "At a Glance: Mobile Payment Acceptance Security," the fact sheet offers retailers with actionable recommendations on partnering with a point-to-point encryption solution provider to securely accept payments that accept payment card industry data security standards, the organization said.

"We know merchants are eager to take advantage of their existing smartphones or tablets to accept payment cards," said Bob Russo, general manager of the PCI SSC. "And the council and its stakeholders want to help the market to do this in a secure way. We're excited about this easy-to-use reference that will help merchants understand how to use the suite of PCI standards to enable their businesses while still keeping data security top of mind."

The council stressed that the new fact sheets do not replace or supersede any current PCI standards.
