Parker’s Putting Unique Spin on Pokémon Go Craze

SAVANNAH, Ga. — The Parker Cos. is putting a new spin on the Pokémon Go craze by having Savannah residents play the game while simultaneously providing a community service.

The operator of Parker’s convenience stores is teaming up with Keep Savannah Clean to host an event whereby attendees will break up into groups and pick up trash in Savannah’s Forsyth Park while playing Pokémon Go. The top three participants with the most trash picked up by weight will earn Parker’s cash cards.

The event, set to take place Aug. 20 at 8 a.m., is free and open to the public. Attendees will be provided with free trash bags and latex gloves.

The event is the first in an ongoing series of community-related trash pickup events. Parker’s President and CEO Greg Parker and City of Savannah representatives will be on hand at the event.

Keep Savannah Clean’s goal is to curb litter in Savannah by 50 percent during the next year via strategic education and social media outreach initiatives.

Parker's is among convenience stores using the Pokémon Go app to encourage customers, CSNews Online previously reported.

Savannah-based The Parker Cos. operates 44 convenience stores in Georgia and South Carolina. It is currently celebrating its 40th anniversary.
