Mondelēz Boosts SmartLabel Commitment With Mobile App

DEERFIELD, Ill. — Mondelēz International Inc. has launched its first SmartLabel app, making in-store, on-the-spot access to product information details for many of its U.S. snacking products available via smartphones.

The new app is part of Mondelēz’s ongoing commitment to the SmartLabel initiative with the Grocery Manufacturers Association, a Washington, D.C.-based trade organization that represents food, beverage and consumer product companies and associated partners.

The SmartLabel app enables consumers to quickly scan a product’s QR code or UPC code on more than 1,100 products across Mondelēz’s U.S. snack product portfolio of biscuits, crackers, cookies, chocolate, gum and candy. Upon scanning a product, consumers are taken to a database of product pages that contain detailed information on that product, such as ingredients, nutrition facts and allergens.

The app is free and is available in the iOS and Android app stores.

"With SmartLabel, Mondelēz International is demonstrating our commitment to consumers’ focus on well being," said Naomi Rosenfeld, marketing director, well-being strategy, North America. "We moved quickly to bring our SmartLabel app to market to help empower consumers to make better, more informed choices. We’ve made great strides in product renovation and innovation that offer consumers better ingredients and more clarity about the foods they enjoy. SmartLabel gives us an opportunity to meet consumers' desire for clear access to information about the products we sell."

Products across the company’s U.S. snack brands that feature SmartLabel include Oreo and Chips Ahoy cookies, Ritz and Triscuit crackers, BelVita breakfast biscuits, Green & Black chocolate, and Trident gum.

Deerfield-based Mondelēz is one of the first companies that signed on to SmartLabel following the initiative's launch in December 2015. It is now one of the first companies to launch a sponsored SmartLabel app.
