MAPCO Express Customers Can Check Out With PayPal

SAN JOSE, Calif. -- MAPCO Express is one of six new retailers to agree to offer mobile payment service PayPal inside their brick-and-mortar locations, PayPal announced on its blog yesterday.

MAPCO Express, Dollar General, Spartan Stores, Radio Shack, Famous Footwear and two as of yet unnamed retailers join the 16 partner companies PayPal announced in May, for a total of 23 retailers signed by the end of 2012.

To achieve its goal of expanding into new retail categories, including grocery stores and gas stations, PayPal is also partnering with NCR in order to leverage its strong footprint with retailers and the hospitality and encourage mobile and digital payment adoption, according to PayPal's Don Kingsborough, vice president, retail services.

In the first phase of the partnership, NCR will integrate PayPal options into its new NCR Mobile Pay application and NCR Aloha Online ordering. PayPal will appear as a payment option alongside credit and debit cards, and customers will be able to use the PayPal mobile application to locate, order-ahead and "check-in" at participating NCR Mobile Pay merchants.

Additionally, PayPal stated that its mobile payment options will be integrated into NCR's Convenience-Go (C-Go) application for convenience stores and gas stations, a store-branded mobile app that allows consumers to purchase fuel, food, car washes and other items from their mobile device.

PayPal and NCR are also enhancing NCR's Netkey Endless Aisle application to enable in-store payments with PayPal to either buy-in-store or provide shipping capability for out of stock items. This will save sales for merchants while making life easier for consumers, and speed up the checkout process, according to PayPal.

PayPal is a division of eBay Inc.
