MACS Adds Shopkick Loyalty Program Under Exxon Deal

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Just days after ExxonMobil Corp. announced it would be the first in the convenience store and fuels industry to incorporate shopkick Inc.'s loyalty program, Exxon partner Mid-Atlantic Convenience Stores (MACS) said it will offer the rewards program at its stores in the District of Columbia.

Shopkick's mobile app rewards consumers with "kicks" when they enter participating retail stores. The kicks can be redeemed for gift cards, song downloads, restaurant vouchers and shopkick-exclusive deals. They can also be used to donate money to nonprofit organizations.

Instead of using GPS technology, the shopkick app utilizes smartphones' ability to recognize a high-pitched signal emitted by a device installed in stores. When a customer opens the app and enters the store, they receive the kicks. Shopkick is available for the iPhone and Android devices.

"We're excited to be among the first convenience stores to offer this mobile app perk to our customers," said Derek Gaskins, senior vice president of marketing and merchandising for MACS. "Exceeding expectations is our goal in everything we do, and keeping up with innovative technology and ways to offer value to our customers is a top priority."
