Lone Star Food Stores, Vendgogh Pilot Gas Island Vending in Texas

SHERMAN, Texas -- Douglass Distributing Retail Co., which owns and operates Lone Star Food Stores, has signed on to do a pilot program with Vendgogh LLC, a gas island vending solution.

Douglass Distributing is now offering Vendgogh's gas island vending at its Lone Star Food Store #50 in Sherman, Texas -- the first installation of its kind in the state, according to the provider.

Vendgogh noted that its patented, UL-approved vending systems integrate seamlessly with Lone Star Food Store's Gilbarco Passport point-of-sale system to enable gas customers to purchase fuel and cold drinks with their choice of payment (cash, credit/debit or contactless payment) without ever leaving the gas island.

"We want to surprise and delight all of our customers," said Bill Douglass, CEO of Douglass Distributing. "We have invested in new pump technology that incorporates Applause TV, an advertising, news and entertainment system that will be a great complement our new gas island vending solution."

Research shows that a growing number of fuel customers are paying at the pump and a large percentage of them do not go into the store. Therefore, Lone Star Food Stores are focused on continually enhancing the shopper experience at the pump, according to the announcement.

"We are excited about working with Douglass Distributing to bring this exciting new service to their fuel customers," said Larry McAnallen, vice president of business development at Cary, N.C.-based Vendgogh. "This innovative combination of gas island vending and Applause TV, coupled with [Douglass'] constant customer focus, should create real excitement for Lone Star Food Store gas customers."

The installations were completed this month.

Lone Star Food Stores operates 15 convenience stores in north Texas under the Douglass Distributing Co. umbrella.
