Cumberland Farms Implements New Tech at Distribution Center

FRAMINGHAM, Mass. — Cumberland Farms Inc. selected HighJump Warehouse Advantage as its warehouse management system (WMS).

According to Minneapolis-based HighJump, the convenience store chain selected its platform to replace its "outdated homegrown system, a decades-old platform with limited WMS capabilities." Cumberland Farms "aims to increase productivity and improve inventory and order accuracy at its 555,000-square-foot distribution center while maintaining scalability. That one warehouse acts as the central nervous system for Cumberland Farms, which has nearly 600 stores in eight states and more than 6,000 employees," HighJump stated in a news release.

"Last year, we made the decision to find a WMS that would not only modernize operations at our distribution center but prepare us for future growth — HighJump provides that," said George Fournier, vice president of supply chain at Cumberland Farms. "They understand that food and beverage suppliers face particular challenges like temperature and quality control and addressed those issues. That's what separated them from the competition."

Specifically, HighJump Warehouse Advantage is designed to allow Framingham-based Cumberland Farms' distribution center to use system-directed operations, taking advantage of both radio frequency and voice technologies.

"Stocking close to 600 stores with a variety of food and beverage products requires careful coordination that can only be supported with highly adaptable warehouse technology. That made this a perfect marriage between vendor and customer," said HighJump Chief Operating Officer Chad Collins. "We are confident that Cumberland Farms will never need to purchase another WMS after selecting HighJump."

Cumberland Farms operates c-stores in the Northeast and Florida.
