Consumers Shifting Back to Credit from Debit

NATIONAL REPORT -- Consumers are returning to credit card spending, after years of shifting their payments to debit cards, according to new facts and figures from First Data, a global leader in e-commerce and payment processing.

A new First Data research paper, titled, "The Rebirth of Credit -- Minus the Debit," says that consumers' shift back to credit cards has the potential to continue. However, this shift is taking place in large part without the return to revolving debt, which would have traditionally been the case. This reality raises questions for merchants, including how this will impact them.
