Valero Partners with Wincor
AUSTIN, Texas -- Valero Energy Corp, yesterday reached a deal with Wincor Nixdorf to install its ProCash 1500 ATMs at 1,200 company-owned convenience stores.
Wincor Nixdorf and IBM competed against all major off-premise ATM suppliers in winning the Valero business; IBM sells and services Wincor Nixdorf ATM solutions in the United States.
The ATM machines will provide customers with conveniently accessed electronic coupons and short, full-motion video programs about the store's promotions. The machines are also configured with a cash acceptor that will allow customers to purchase tickets and phone cards. In addition, the machines have the capability to recharge and activate cell-phone programs.
"Valero is pleased to be working with Wincor Nixdorf and IBM on the ProCash 1500 installation. Wincor Nixdorf's flexibility and open architecture allows Valero endless business options for new revenue-generating retail products and services," said Shelayne Clemmer, director of Valero's retail eCommerce.
Valero manages a branded network of more than 4,500 convenience stores under brands including Diamond Shamrock, Stop N Go, Valero and Beacon.
Also as part of the agreement, Wincor AutoTell, a majority-owned subsidiary of Wincor Nixdorf, will provide software applications that allow monitoring and remote fix capability, as well as other functions.
In other news, Valero said its Texas City and Houston refineries have both returned to normal operations after recent problems. "The Texas City refinery regained full operations late Friday and the Houston refinery regained full operations Saturday," the company said in a statement.
Valero has been running its refineries at 89 percent of capacity this month to combat poor refining margins. Valero's 85,000 barrel-per-day (bpd) refinery in Houston had a fire on Friday as a result of lightning striking an electrical substation.
Valero owns and operates 12 refineries in the United States and Canada with a combined throughput capacity of approximately 2 million bpd.
