Shell Grants Access to Fuelman Cardholders

HOUSTON -- Shell Oil Products US will grant access to Shell's proprietary payment-processing network for customers that use Atlanta-based FleetCor's Fuelman Fleet Card, the company announced. More than 3,500 Shell-branded retail outlets currently participate in the Fuelman program.

“Shell's National Jobber Council identified Fuelman access as one of its top priorities,” said Hugh Cooley, vice president and general manager national wholesale. “We listened to our wholesalers' concerns, and believe this is a good opportunity to help them enhance volume and attract a more loyal customer base. We're opening up our network to the Fuelman card to strengthen our commitment to helping our retailers and wholesalers develop their local fleet business.”

“Fuelman cardholders tend to be loyal customers at specific stations, and purchase more store items than the average customer,” said Bernie Davis, Fuelman's national merchant director. “The combination of the Fuelman fleet card program with Shell's pay-at-the-pump convenience and its network of 13,000 gasoline stations provides fleet operators with an industry-leading solution to control fuel and maintenance costs while enhancing convenience to drivers and retailers.”

While Shell Oil Products US will provide accessibility throughout its proprietary payment-processing network, each location must enter into its own agreement with FleetCor to allow its customers to use the Fuelman card. All currently participating Shell-branded locations should obtain pay-at-the-pump access for Fuelman cards by the end of June.

In other Shell news, the company is to renew its technical partnership with Ferrari for a further five years from 2006 until the end of 2010, providing fuels and lubricants to Ferrari's road car division as well as its racing operation.

Shell and Ferrari have been technical partners in Formula One for more than 32 years, since the first Formula One World Championship in Britain. Every year, Shell blends 250,000 liters of fuel for the Ferrari Formula One team.

“Formula One is the natural meeting place for a car manufacturer and an oil company, since it provides an opportunity to develop mechanical and product performance in the field and under extreme conditions,” said Juan Carlos Perez, vice president, Shell Brands International. “We are delighted to re-sign with Ferrari. Our relationship with Ferrari is one of the most mutually beneficial technical partnerships in automotive history -- long may it continue!”

The advances made by Shell on the track feed the development of products for the road, according to the company. Shell customers today can trace their fuel and oil's heritage back to the high-performance products used by the Ferrari team.
