Peanut Recalls Hit Stewarts Shops, Highs C-stores
NEW YORK -- Two convenience chains' ice cream products were recalled due to potential salmonella contamination linked to the ever-widening outbreak that was linked to Peanut Corp. of America's Blakely, Ga., facility since January 2007.
Stewart’s Shops of Saratoga Springs, N.Y., recalled its Caramel Candy Bar Dip Ice Cream from its shops, according to a report in the North Country Gazette.
Meanwhile, Hanover, Md.-based convenience store chain High’s issued a precautionary recall for its Tin Roof Sundae ice cream, which contains chocolate covered peanuts, the Baltimore Business Journal reported.
Stewart’s previously announced its products were safe from potential contamination, however, it was notified by its vendor that an ingredient in the ice cream has the potential to be contaminated with salmonella, the Gazette reported.
Stewart's Caramel Candy Bar Ice Cream was distributed in 3-gallon boxes directly to Stewart’s Shops in New York and southern Vermont. The chain has had no reports of any illness to date, and since all products have been removed from stores and ice cream counters, the chain assumed what was sold has been consumed, the report stated.
The High’s recall includes all 56-ounce containers of Tin Roof Sundae with the UPC code 71441-07384, manufactured before Jan. 30. The recall is precautionary and the company has not received any illness complaints to date, according to the Journal report.
In both instances, customers are encouraged to return the ice cream to the location where it was purchased for a full refund.
