N.Y. Convenience Store Hall of Fame Adds Three Members

ALBANY, N.Y. -- Three new members have been elected to the New York Convenience Store Hall of Fame: Paul Rankin of United Refining Co. and Raziur Rahman and David Geary of the Altria Group. The New York Association of Convenience Stores will induct them at the annual Chairman's Banquet on May 17 in Syracuse, N.Y.

Paul Rankin is United Refining's vice president of retail marketing and manages its Country Fair division, which operates 61 c-stores in Pennsylvania, eight in New York and five in Ohio. A 26-year veteran of the company, Rankin served on the NYACS Board of Directors from 1990 to 1993 and currently serves as Chairman of the Pennsylvania Convenience Store Council. He graduated from the University of Kansas with a Bachelor's degree in history and a Master's degree in business administration. He and his wife Barbara have twin children, T.J. and Lili.

Raziur "Raz" Rahman recently retired from his position as section sales director for Altria/Philip Morris, where he oversaw a team of 80 salespeople and 6,500 stores from the Canadian border to northern Pennsylvania. He was previously Philip Morris' national director of trade relations, during which time he served as a member of supplier committees of the National Association of Convenience Stores and the Board of the American Wholesale Marketers Association. He also helped launch NYACS' "C-Store Management 1-2-3" training program in conjunction with NACS and Cornell University in 1999 while part of NYACS' Associate Board.

Rahman holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Economics and English from the State University of New York at Buffalo and has two sons, Jamil and Steve.

David Geary also recently retired from his position as Altria/Philip Morris' district sales manager for central New York, where he reported to Rahman. Geary was with the company for 31 years and has also held the role of director of sales training.

A graduate of SUNY Brockport with a Bachelor's degree in marketing/management, Geary now resides in Manlius, N.Y. with his wife Susan and daughters Margaret and Sarah.

Rankin, Rahman and Geary will be the 35th, 36th, and 37th individuals inducted into the New York Convenience Store Hall of Fame, which was founded by NYACS in 1986 and seeks to honor individual retailers and suppliers for exceptional achievement in the convenience store industry and exemplary service to NYACS.

This year's Chairman's Banquet will be the closing event of NYACS' May 16-17 Trade Show and Convention and the Oncenter in Syracuse, N.Y. It will feature a golf outing, welcome party, educational seminars, trade exhibits, prizes, and other activities for member and non-member retailers and suppliers.
