Just What The Company Ordered

IRVING, Texas -- Exxon Mobil Corp., operator of more than 4,000 convenience stores, has been recognized by Hackett Best Practices, a division of Answerthink Inc., for its best practices in procurement, both in terms of operating efficiency and effectiveness.

In recognizing ExxonMobil, Richard Roth, managing director of Hackett Best Practices, said the oil company has built a global operating model that truly promotes excellence.

"While few large, global companies have discovered ways to effectively support their expenditures, ExxonMobil has developed an infrastructure, a sourcing strategy and procurement function to create the most effective service offering at the lowest cost to its worldwide business units," Roth said. "They are able to drive efficiency and intelligence into their processes, which results in better execution at a lower cost."

Jean Baderschneider, vice president for procurement for ExxonMobil, said the company was pleased to be recognized for its performance in this area and acknowledged the hard work of the nearly 4,000 people who work in the ExxonMobil procurement organization.

"This award is particularly gratifying in light of the fact that we have successfully integrated two procurement models in just two years since the merger, and attained best-practice status in that time," she said. "We can credit our success in this area to the global implementation of standardized processes and procedures. This has allowed us to leverage our size and expenditures, and optimize the relationships we have with thousands of suppliers, to benefit the entire organization -- both in the way of reduced costs and value-added service."
