J. Polep's Latest Acquisition Boosts Foodservice Programs

CHICOPEE, Mass. — J. Polep Distribution Services has acquired certain assets of Garber Bros. Inc., a convenience store distributor that serviced the Northeast before shutting down on April 10.

The acquisition includes inventory but not Garber's accounts receivable or its facility in Stoughton, Mass., according to Griffin Report of the Northeast.

"To balance the continued leveraged growth, J. Polep was able to retain a majority of Garber's sales force," said a company official. "These talented sales representatives bring experience, knowledge and the mindset J. Polep knows will be a great addition to the company."

Among the assets acquired from Garber Bros. is the branded Beantown Coffee program, which "allows customers to have a coffee shop within their convenience stores featuring specialty roasted Beantown blend and flavored coffees, cappuccinos, iced coffee and beans," the company official said.

J. Polep will reportedly place heavy concentration on the development and growth of customers' in-store sales and improving their margin dollars. With the acquired assets, it will present additional value-added services and foodservice programs to its customers.

Additionally, the assets and operation synergies will give J. Polep a stronger presence within the convenience store industry in the Northeast and will further strengthen its business, according to the company.

Chicopee, Mass.-based J. Polep Distribution Services is a family-owned and -operated company that offers more than 15,000 SKUs to c-stores in New England.
