Couche-Tard Chooses NCR for POS Update

ATLANTA -- Alimentation Couche-Tard, through its subsidiary Circle K Stores Inc., has selected the NCR RealPOS 70 point-of-sale (POS) workstation for approximately 1,000 of its convenience stores in the United States.

Couche-Tard, the fourth-largest convenience store operator in North America, is also installing NCR printers and NCR RealScan 92 presentation scanners. Rollout is scheduled to begin later this month.

"We required a POS system rugged enough to withstand the convenience store environment with an open architecture design that would lower our total cost of ownership and serve us well into the future," said Circle K senior director of information technology, Bryant Santini. "The NCR RealPOS 70 meets these criteria and is an ideal POS platform to run the Radiant POS software application we're using in many of our stores."

With the NCR RealPOS 70, components can be swapped, offering a stable, industry-standard POS platform that is easy to upgrade and service. Its industry-standard design enables simple implementation of current and next-generation software applications.

Featuring an omni-directional scan pattern, the NCR RealScan 92 allows for fast presentation and pass-by scanning. It also includes a built-in single-line mode for pin-point accuracy, enabling it to easily decipher bar codes that are in close proximity to each other.

In other company news, Couche-Tard subsidiary Mac's Convenience Stores LLC is expanding an existing Circle K contract with FuelQuest for their Fuel Management System (FMS) by an additional 430 sites in addition to the 1,440 Circle K division stores currently using the solution.

The selection includes the entire FuelQuest FMS suite of solutions for fuel management, enhancing Mac's ability to forecast fuel replenishment, manage fuel-supplier contracts, perform best-buy fuel-pricing analyses, automate the dispatch and receipt of fuel deliveries and optimize carrier freight payment and reconciliation. The new system aims to provide Mac's with the latest fuel inventory management advancements as well as more flexibility in the management of fuel contracts and costs.
