Applications Open for 2007 NACS Jim Yates Scholarships

ALEXANDRIA, VA -- Applications are now available for the 2007 NACS Jim Yates Scholarships, an annual scholarship program that recognizes employees in the industry that are dedicated to achieving excellence in retailing, boast strong leadership skills at the store level and maintain persistence in the pursuit of education.

The one-year scholarships are given in honor of the late Jim Yates, founder of E-Z Mart Stores Inc. NACS, the association for convenience and petroleum retailing, will select 10 scholarship winners to receive $3,000 for costs of career education at a college, in addition to complimentary registration, lodging and travel to the NACS Show 2007, which will take place Nov. 5 to 9 in Atlanta.

"The scholarship means so much to me," said Brenda Rohn, manager for Gas America Services and recipient of the 2006 Yates Scholarship. "I am now able to fulfill a life long dream to go to college." Of the ten winners from last year, seven of them are older than age 30 and have been with their company for at least 15 years.

Applicants must work for a NACS retail member company and must be enrolled in the fall 2007 for undergraduate academic study. The deadline to submit applications is May 4.

Companies may nominate multiple applicants. For an application or more information, click here or contact Erin Mitchell at [email protected] or (703) 518-4241.
