7-Eleven Gets Innovative

DALLAS -- 7-Eleven Inc., operator of more than 5,800 convenience stores in North America, will hold its second Product Innovation Day Sept. 18-19 at its headquarters in Dallas.

As part of the promotion, 7-Eleven is inviting new vendors to submit profiles about their company and products to be included in this forum. Finalists will be invited to showcase their products for consideration by the company's senior merchandising team.

The first Product Innovation Day at 7-Eleven took place in January. "Of the more than 400 applications we received from companies wanting to participate in the first event, 15 were selected for face-to-face reviews," said Alan Beach, product director at 7-Eleven. "As a result, this month we nationally introduced products from two of the companies we met with, and are continuing to work with at least three other companies on new product development."

Beach estimates 7-Eleven receives thousands of new product pitches each year. "We designated Product Innovation Day to provide vendors who have never before approached 7-Eleven with an opportunity to present their new, innovative products and meet with our top merchandising executives," he said.

Beach said 7-Eleven offers vendors the opportunity to market to more than 6 million customers daily at its network of stores across North America.

"First and foremost, everything is based on meeting what the customer will want or need. After that, we want 7-Eleven to be first to market, offer the best quality and value, and if possible, to have product exclusivity," Beach said.

Product Innovation Day application forms can be completed online at 7-Eleven Inc. or by calling 800-255-0711.
