Casey’s New 500-Mile Radius for Growth

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. — Casey’s General Stores Inc. has set an official date for the grand opening of its second distribution center. The new Terra Haute facility will begin operating Feb. 6, Casey's President and CEO Robert J. Myers confirmed to CSNews Online in an exclusive interview.

Myers described the new distribution center as "a beautiful facility," and said he is excited about the new operation.

In regards to what this second distribution center will mean for the future growth of the convenience store operator, the chief executive told CSNews Online that one should look within “a 500-mile radius” of the 250,000-square-foot facility that's about to open in the Vigo County Industrial Park in Terre Haute.

Casey’s has successfully expanded into Tennessee and Kentucky and has publicly discussed plans to grow both organically and via acquisitions in Michigan, Ohio and Arkansas. Once the new distribution center comes online, Casey’s is expected to look at expansion into new geographic regions as well.

The company broke ground on this second distribution center back in September 2014. At that time, the retailer estimated it would cost $30 million to build and bring an expected 200 jobs to the Terre Haute region.

“Casey’s devoted a significant amount of time and resources to the site selection process for this facility,” Myers said at the time of the groundbreaking. “We believe Terre Haute is the most strategic location that will enable us to expand our territory further south and east, while at the same time providing a more efficient distribution system to our existing stores.”

Ankeny, Iowa-based Casey’s General Stores Inc. currently operates more than 1,900 convenience stores across 14 states.
