YORK, Pa. — One local convenience chain is going to the movies.
Rutter's has purchased a product placement sponsorship for the "Against The Odds" movie project, inspired by the true story of the Red Land Little League baseball team's U.S. Championship at the 2015 World Series in Williamsport.
York-based Rutter's has long been a supporter of the Red Land Little League organization and one of its 62 convenience stores is across the street from the Red Land fields.
"Our company is proud of our Central Pennylsvania roots and of the great legacy of Red Land Little League. Rutter's is excited about the 'Against The Odds' movie project, as it will share that legacy with the rest of the world," said Rutter's Chief Customer Officer Derek Gaskins. "We can't wait to see the final product and are thrilled to be a part of making this project happen."
During a recent visit to the Rutter's corporate offices, Gaskins presented a check for $10,000 to Jameson Hesse, the film's director and co-producer, as a part of their product placement sponsorship.
"The feature film will tell 'a true American success story about family, community and the love of the game as it follows the Red Land baseball team's improbable march from a small town in Pennsylvania to capture the U.S. title.' We are thrilled to have Rutter's come aboard as a sponsor," Hesse explained.
Rutter's joins two other central Pennsylvania-based corporations, Musselman's Applesauce and the Harrisburg Senators, in sponsorship of the movie project.
Hesse added that the producers intend to film and post-produce the movie entirely in the region and are in the midst of an Indiegogo.com crowdfunding campaign that has already surpassed an initial goal of raising $50,000.
"In addition to filming here, we intend to donate a portion of the net profits of 'Against The Odds' to the Red Land Little League team so they can build a new youth baseball complex and inspire future Little Leaguers to pursue their dreams," said Hesse, who grew up in Lewisberry and played baseball for Red Land.
