Maverik Makes Its Vegas Debut

LAS VEGAS -- Maverik Inc., the convenience store chain known as "Adventure's First Stop," embarked on a new adventure of its own yesterday. The Salt Lake City-based retailer opened its first store in the Las Vegas area, celebrating its arrival with an open house complete with giveaways.

On its Facebook page, the company wrote: "Vegas are you ready? We are opening our first of many stores in the Las Vegas area! Come join us today from 5p-8p at 10490 Bermuda Rd. (intersection of Cactus and Bermuda) to experience the Maverik adventure! We will be sampling our BonFire fresh food products and other tasty treats. Don't miss out as we celebrate our arrival here in Sin City!"

Las Vegas is one of several markets Maverik has targeted for growth. Dan Murray, vice president of Growth Tsunami, Maverik's real estate and construction department, told CSNews Online earlier this year that expansion is happening in both new and existing markets.

Maverik's historical markets include all of Utah, Idaho, Wyoming and northern Arizona. A couple of years ago, the retailer entered the Reno market in Nevada, and it's now moving into Las Vegas. Other new markets are eastern Washington State (five stores as of this summer), and the front range of Colorado (the chain already has a presence on the western slope).

When Murray spoke with CSNews Online in July, 32 new sites were somewhere in Maverik's real estate and construction process. In Las Vegas specifically, five stores were under construction, five more were in the building permit phase, and additional sites were in the cue to follow. "You grow or you die," Murray commented at the time.
