Kroger to End Double/Triple Coupons Program in Houston Area

HOUSTON -- Kroger stores in the greater Houston area will discontinue the doubling and tripling of coupons as of April 13, the company announced.

In a prepared statement, Kroger cited the "growing popularity of digital coupons, mobile apps and manufacturers producing coupons valued at more than 50 cents" as a primary cause for ending the program. Stores will continue to accept coupons at face value with a limit of one electronic or paper manufacturer coupon per item. The company added that in the future it may re-introduce double and triple coupons through intermittent special shopping events.

However, bargain-conscious shoppers aren't left without options. The company announced plans for a new savings program the day the current policy ends. "What drove the decision is that it was an opportunity for us to launch a new savings program that will have a much broader reach," said Rebecca King on behalf of Kroger.

In its statement, Kroger also noted that over 100 digital coupons are available daily at www.kroger.com. The company also promised to share details of its new savings program in the near future.
