ExxonMobil & Safeway End Gas Rewards Partnership

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Supermarket chain Safeway Inc. and Exxon Mobil Corp. have terminated their gas rewards partnership in the Mid-Atlantic region.

According to the Washington Business Journal, the deal ended May 31. It was first launched in January 2013.

As part of the agreement, shoppers could redeem Safeway points at any participating Exxon or Mobil gas station, receiving 10 cents off per gallon for every $100 spent at a Safeway store.

It was "a mutual parting of the ways," Safeway spokesman Craig Muckle told the news outlet. He did not provide further details.

Safeway still offer gas discounts to its Club Card loyalty members. However, these discounts can now only be redeemed where Safeway has its own on-site gas stations.
